The former Police Married Quarters (PMQ) in Central is a historical landmark which has been restored and adapted to new uses that inspire creativity by providing opportunities for aspiring artists, designers and a complementary mix of retailers to springboard and build their enterprises while creating a platform to promote Hong Kong’s design industry. In designing the interior spaces, the approach taken by The Oval Partnership was to devise a series of minimal interventions within this ‘found’ space to breath new life into this historically significant building. Flexible display systems and a series of temporary and permanent installations are distributed throughout the building with the intention of creating a vibrant and visually inspiring environment to activate the intervening spaces between the retail and business units. Working closely with Hybrid (Graphic Designer), a range of furniture, signage and landscaping elements were designed as tools for way-finding supported by pop-up elements and curated events which aim to energise and enliven the user experience. The Oval Partnership also had a role in the tenant vetting process to ensure a diverse and appropriate mix of occupants.
