Drawing upon the rich historical background and unique east-meets-west cultural mix of Xiamen, the hotel is designed to promote the blending of international lifestyles and local Chinese culture.

Billed as Hyatt Group’s first Hyatt Centric in Greater China, this hotel project is positioned to appeal to young business and leisure travellers. Part of the attraction of the Hyatt Centric brand is their central urban locations, generally inhabiting the heart of a city or close to its tourist attractions. Add to this, a design concept that inspires both local and international contexts, the result is an experience that both encourages visitors to explore the local lifestyle, while also enhancing their travel adventure. The Oval Partnership is responsible for master planning the scheme, including the main structure of the hotel which comprises 188 guestrooms, as well as a large premium shopping gallery alongside, and an area designated for luxury suites.

Hyatt Centric Xiamen is intended to foster a new lifestyle community hugging the city’s coast. The site is close to the popular hipster venue, Zeng Cuo An Village, which influenced its design, by adopting the concept of an open civic space that connects the hotel’s shopping gallery with the external area. This open city idea has had a positive impact on the community, promoting its unique cultural and artistic vibe, while fostering a sense of neighbourhood that is welcoming to both visitors and locals.

Within the hotel, its main theme is that of a series of urban gardens that extend to the hotel’s enclosure. The exterior form is inspired by the Southern Fujian red brick buildings of Xiamen; the sloping roof, stone pedestal and red brick walls are reinterpreted with modern design detailing and materials, to create a contemporary microcosm which embodies the landmark architectural language of the project.
